Elon’s Warpath to Destroy Safety
How Twitter is losing psychological, brand, and worker safety by replacing a CEO with a “Chief Twit”
It’s happened. Elon owns Twitter. And the feeling I feel most strongly is an overwhelming sense of, “Damn. That sucks.”
As someone who likes Twitter, it sucks. As a member of a marginalized community, this absolutely sucks. As a community management professional who works directly with content moderation, I have a morbid fascination with this train wreck.
Like everyone, I’m perplexed as to why, exactly, Elon bought Twitter. Perhaps there’s some billionaire’s checklist hidden from the public which includes buying your own media website or newspaper. It’s possible he just loves it so much he had to have it. Maybe he never thought it would go through and is just as surprised as the rest of us. No matter the reason, it’s going to suck for us.
I’ve said it so. many. times. before. but I am so depressed by how Elon chooses to use the platform he has. Elon is cringe. Elon inserts himself into geopolitical issues that he shouldn’t wade into. Elon bullies anyone who dares to challenge his ideas. The subjects he’s the lead spokesperson for — electric vehicles, space exploration, etc — deserve such a better representative.
