Just One Community Manager’s Take on Elon’s Twitter Takeover

What does “free speech” mean to someone like Elon, and how will it affect your experience on Twitter?

I don’t have to tell you what just happened. If you’re reading this, you know. As a community manager, I’ve got a bunch of thoughts and opinions I want to share about how Elon’s Twitter Takeover could impact everything from content moderation to misinformation, but first I need to get something out of the way…

You can’t talk about Elon Musk buying Twitter without first disclosing how you feel about him. He’s too polarizing. Before I share what his takeover could mean for content moderation and community, I want to lay it out there: I do not admire or aspire to the version of Elon Musk’s character I see online, but I do admire his accomplishments, especially making electric vehicles mainstream.

Elon Musk is the most prolific representative for important topics that deserve a much better spokesperson.

Climate change, space exploration, and access to information are all issues I’ve cared about since I was young. I’m disheartened to see the global face of these topics troll, name call…
